well it’s been a long few weeks
I don’t have the energy to really type it all out right now, but my mom came at the end of April to visit… she’s still here due to health issues.
Long story short on Mother’s Day night, mom, myself and my friend J decided to head out to the racetrack to watch the ponies and in the parking lot soon after we got out of the car, my mom collapsed from a heart attack and had to be taken to the Heart Institute where she had emergency angioplasty done, 4 stents inserted and ran up a wonderful bill that she will be paying off till the end of time.
She’s been back here at the house since Thursday afternoon, she’s doing really good but it’s been a long 4 days. We’re BORED. She can’t go far, not allowed to walk more than 10 minutes at a time, has to rest/nap several times a day… so we’ve been doing a LOT of reading. I think I may have to not only take her to blockbuster tomorrow but the library as well as she’s pretty much polished off everything of mine that is of interest to her.
We’ll be sticking around here till the end of the month and then heading back down to Michigan for a few weeks. We have lots to take care of while I’m down there, that will be exhausting and tedious. We have to set up another angiogram for her, she needs to see her doctor for her prescriptions, a cardiologist to make sure everything is working right, work with a lawyer to get her will set up and taken care of. On top of researching compassion charities and other things to possibly help my mother knock down the total of her bill. I also have to visit with some family, including my dad and stepmom..
So yeah.. that’s really all that has been going on around here aside from learning to cook with low sodium recipes. That’s one thing that has been good for us all. Smaller, leaner healthier meals. I know my mom herself has lost nearly 10 pounds since she’s been in the hospital and this week I’ve lost about 6 (though I gained half of it back at Yumi’s alone yesterday).
Oh and my mom has quit smoking. That’s the best thing ever from all of this :) Granted it’s only been a week, but my mom has been smoking for at least 40 years, so this is a huge start :)
