Fun Monday - Meet the Pets
Our Hostess Lisa’s Chaossays: Let’s meet your pets. I think most of us have at least one pet and I would like to see your fluffy or scaly pal. If you don’t have a camera you can tell us about him/her/them. If you don’t have a pet tell us about a pet you had or a pet you want. If for some weird reason you hate all animals we want to know why gosh-dang-it.
OK then!
Lets start with the most obnoxious obvious pet.
Dutchess came to our family in the year 2000 through some connections my dad had at work to Dalmatian Rescue. The story from what I gathered was she was a “Disney Dog” bought for a couple of under 5’s that wanted one for Christmas. General puppy purchase remorse, no training and the cute little puppy becoming a bigger more energetic puppy led to Dutchess being dropped off at the Humane Society. In turn, the HS turned her over to a Dal Rescue because her chances would be better at adoption. Not sure if there was any time spent between there and the foster home we got her from, but in the end she was with an elderly lady in an apartment. This lady happened to be an aunt or some relative of one of my dad’s co-workers.
We had just lost the family dog the fall prior and it wasn’t too long after Christmas that my dad started the “I Miss Having a Dog”. Mom and I said no dogs, but I get my stubborness from someone -lol- In April of 2000, I had gone out for a weekend at a friends. I called home to let the parents know where I would be, and found it VERY strange that no one was there. Usually my mom was out, no surprise.. but my dad was usually home on the weekends. No big deal, called back later… talked to the Dad, said I’d be home late the next day. Fast forward to about 11pm the next day, I come home, door’s locked, unlock the door, go to make my way in the dark to my room when my living room is growling at me. I knew it wasn’t the cat, so I pretty much thought I was going to die. I eventually found the light switch in my panicked pawing of the wall while trying not to freak out, when the lights came on, this spotted demon beast in the kitchen started barking. The parents came down the hall, “hahaha meet Dutchess”… I’m pretty certain I said some unpleasant things and went to bed.
Fast forward quite a few years, I move out, get married, we buy our own home… my parents ended up divorcing. Yeah, I saw the next question coming a mile away. K and I had already discussed it in anticipation of my dad asking. Dutchess immigrated to Canada and joined our family in 2005, where she’s been a wonderful and life fulling addition to our family ever since.

The next pet I guess would be Sport. He’s an African Grey parrot (1992), and the most story I have about him is(someone can correct me if I am mistaken): K’s mom used to breed parrots, Sport was one of her babies. When K moved out she gifted Sport and supplies to him and well he’s still here :)
And then there is Flame. I’ve known Flame since he was born (1990) and owned him since he was 2.5. I used to take riding lessons at a place that not only did riding lessons, but Holsteiner breeding and sales. My dad finally relented in the eternal question of “CAN I HAVE A PONY?!” and well.. got a pony -lol- We’ve had our ups and downs. He spent most of his later years being a field ornament before he finally joined us here in Canada. I’d love to say that since he’s been here, we’ve reclaimed our glory days of galloping through flowered meadows, leaping fences and all that mooshy crap but we haven’t. I have a wonderful woman riding him now for me and they’re learning in leaps and bounds together. They’re pretty peas and carrots and I’m hoping maybe to see them in the showring this year.

You have some great pets with great names! I love the second photo you have of Duchess. Sport and Flame look like they could be a LOT of fun too!

I love you “Disney dog” and your bird. I had to laugh at your description of your horse as a field ornament. My daughter’s ‘pony’ is also very decorative!
Great post. Thanaks for sharing.

You have a horse! Wow. Every pony deprived girl is jealous! Does Sport talk?

Sport’s a good egg. He does talk a bit but he’s more interested in whistling. He views that as his main source of communication.

Didn’t you used to be afraid of birds..?? I think that was you.. you should mention that. Just saying.
Duchess is beautiful…and Flame? I would love to ride him.

I think you forgot your pet sheepshagger. And everyone knows what happens if i start writing about pets…the poem comes out.

Yeah I’m still not that keen on birds, but Sport’s ok… he’s pretty non threatening.
As for the sheepshagger, the only photos I have of him that are recent are him in the shower and wearing a shiney tiara….

Before someone reads that wrong, I’d like to further clarify that I do not wear my tiara in the shower. There are 2 distinctly different pictures that Becka has of me:
== one wearing my shiney tiara
== one buck nekkid in a shower.
Yeah. I’m glad we cleared that up. Pet that, Rusty!

Dutchess is a beautiful dog. But yes…they do have a lot of energy.
Sport is a pretty bird.
Very nice looking horse. I still have reservations being around horses but they are great looking animals. We have donkeys instead of horses. They are cute in their own way :-)
