classes and stuffs
I had my SPU(special pregnancy unit) class I had to take today for failing my Glucose test. It was essetinally explaining what GD is, what causes it, when it goes away etc. The second half we met with a dietician who explained a modified meal plan to follow for the rest of the pregnancy etc. Pretty easy going stuff. The hardest part is going to be making sure I get the 6x a day meal/snack routine down. Other than that, the food part really isnt’ that different from what I normally eat during the day, I just have to eat it at different times and different quantities; cut out the crappy sugary stuff. They supplied all of the women in the class with Accu-chek glucose meters with strips and lancets. They also provided the prescription for more test strips as we go along. It all came bundled up in a nice wooden box with baby photo album. I have to admit, it’s one of the nicer “kickback freebies” I’ve seen from pharmacutical anything -lol- We can also submit our receipts to the Canadian Diabetes Association at the end of the pregnancy for a 65% reimbursement of our costs due to the GD because we don’t have a drug plan through work etc. That makes it a bit more bearable as the test trips are essentially about $1.10 a piece when you work it out. I have to do the diet and test for the next 2 weeks and then meet with a diabetes doctor and discuss what the next steps are. I don’t have GD persay but because I had the abnormal reading they want me to do this stuff anyways. I’m ok with it, it’s just kind of annoying. My biggest issue is juice.. no more juice-sighs-
