I’m only going to say this once
well twice, as I’ve already said it to Jay.
Halite (sodium chloride aka rock salt) that is used on sidewalks and roads to melt salt is extremely caustic and can cause burns when in contact with bare skin. It is also poisonous. If ingested by dogs through the means of licking their feet, it can cause digestive problems and kidney complications. Using protective dog boots on your dog’s feet during winter months keeps halite and other nasty things (read: antifreeze, brake line fluid, oil) trapped in the snow from passing cars/trucks, from potentially causing severe harm to your dog.
Dalmatians do not have undercoats. Their hair is very thin and close fitting to their body. If one needs an analogy for how a Dalmatian feels in the cold, please step outside in a pair of shorts and a thin teeshirt with no socks or shoes on in temperatures below 32F or 0C. Let this also be a moment to remind those outside of balmier climates that Canada gets very cold in certain areas. Ottawa is one of them.
I shouldn’t have to say this, but I’m sorry that thinking of my dog’s comfort, health and safety is a reason for my “poor” dog needing to kick my ass or other such nonsense.
