At least it's good to know he came to accept (if not love) being recognised as "Mr. Scott" -- because it's true, that's how he's going to be remembered for years to come.

And he got a dig in at Shatner from beyond the grave. See ya, James.

I've never seen any of the Star Trek movies and I've only seen about 5-6 of the original series. I know who all of the characters are/were because how the pop culture that surrounds all things 'trek'. Needless to say, I heard tonight on the news that the phrases, "Beam me up, Scotty" or Beam me up, Mr. Scott" were never uttered once in the original series. I found that a rather interesting bit o' trivia. Know of anyone that can verify that?

Except to us old farts who remember him (and William Shatner and Barry Morse and Jack Creley (who did some real funny slapstick stuff together)) from the early days of Canadian TV.

Speaking of the early days of Canadian TV I still remember the 40s or 50s equivalent of Canadian Idol -- specifically the show in which a young kid from Ottawa by the name of Paul Anka was a contestant and lost.

" Kirk never actually spoke the line Beam me up Scotty in the original series. Beam us up Scotty was from the 1970s cartoon series version of Star Trek."

Variants are also spoken once or twice in the movies, although I'm not sure about the exact words/order used. It's really the same thing as Sherlock Holmes favourite misquote, "Elementary, my dear Watson," which never appeared in a single Conan Doyle book (but rather later in films).

I was saddened by this. I feel like it's a reflection on the fact that I'm growing older. Kids today have never even heard of half the shoes I watched as a kid, and people from those shoes are gradually falling ill and dying. Granted alot of those shows were old when we were watching them as kids, but isn't it sad to think that there are generations that just won't even recognise things like "the dukes of hazard" and "bewitched" and things like that. They know they're remakes, but never actually saw the originals.

I digress... heh... RIP Mr Scott!

I wondered what you were talking about when I read your msn message to me about "shoes" as I was running out the door this morning. I really thought you were losing the plot.

NOW I understand -redface-. I LOST THE PLOT NOT YOU.... please substitute "shoes" with "shows"when reading my post... I must have been subconciously trying to work out which shoes I was going to wear to work today.. -cough-... BTW, should be some pictures up this time tomorrow on my site, cause I'm going to see Benno play tonight... in fact they're doing their own show so I promised I would do photos tonight.
