blogs, databases, erased OH MY!
so today, I decided.. that Carrie Ann needed to be upgraded to the latest and greatest of pMachine. As many of you know, pMachine is now offering their Pro version for free, as they are no longer developing it. Expression Engine is taking off and over. I had already upgraded myself from 2.3pro to 2.4pro with only one minor screw up which was the forum. I figured out why THAT happened today as well. I never had the forum setup on the 2.3 install, so on 2.4 it was like HWAT? no. get lost. But that is fixed.
So I tell Carrie, OMG, you need to be updated. I am dropping everything, and now I shall go take care of your security and Russian Spam problems. So I get moving on things, install 2.4pro and notice at the refresh of her blog that her template is all screwed up. Then on second look I realize there is only ONE entry on her index.php. In a moment of panic, I ask K to quickly access her database. It’s 90K in size. NOTHING there, but the install of 2.4pro. Bring in, the OMG CARRIE, feeling like I’m gonna puke, feeling like butt because I wiped 3 years of memories and writing clean that wasn’t even mine. She handled it well, though I know she probably wanted to punch me in the head. I frantically emailed our host asking if they had this mornings backup and if they did could they just drop it back in for me.
Hours go by, I’m certain by this time that Carrie is never seeing her blog again.. So I decided well, if she’s gonna have a clean slate, she might as well have a new look. Halfway into building the new look, I check her email, and wahlah. Her database has been restored. k backs up the database in case I fuck it up again. So I go in, delete pMachine Free 2.3 from her account, reinstall 2.3free back to the account. It all works now, everything is OK. So I then upgrade her to 2.3pro. I also at this time took the time to install the forum and run that before running the 2.3pro install script. Everything is OK. Blog is there, forum is there. NOW, for the 2.4pro. I bring that up, start installing, cross my toes.. refresh.. and beautiful. However, there was her very old and boring layout. It has served it’s time. So I continue with the new layout. I wanted to have it done before she got home from work.
I finished uploading the last file just as she signed on to MSN. I had just a few link colours in her comments to tweak, but it was ok to view. I felt really good about getting this sorted out. It was otherwise destroying my day-sighs- Tomorrow, I get to upgrade Picturing to 2.3 pro and 2.4pro.. JOY! So go have a look at Carrie’s new layout. I really dig it.

poor kitty. *pets*
carrie told me the host she uses for her blog. phenominet or something? I have it bookmarked. It seems to be the best deal around. I really REALLY want my own domain to host my blog. Soon I hope. *crosses everything*
coming up with a name for it will be the tricky part.

phenominet isn’t bad if you don’t expect a whole lot out of them. if you plan on just keepign your blog there then yes, they’re a good place. anything more involved than that, go somewhere else.
