Happy Birthday Miss Bevie!

I hope you are having a grand time on your vacation and all is well. I caught a glimpse of her presents and I must say someone has done well *L*

no quills!

yah :)

she’s off off and away

i think there are about 10 other people nervous and hoping for the best besides the 2 people involved with today. i’ve been fretting for about an hour now.. that’s how long she’s hopefully been up in the air.. no delays, no fuss.. she has other things to be on her mind. i hope her trip is smooth and that all goes well in the first 10 minutes.. and that the rest of the trip is what a close friend of ours calls “magical”. I don’t want to hear about porcupine quills. :)

Bev, Jay.. I hope you have a great time. Much love and happy thoughts!

This week’s funtimes

Over the past week with Flame, I’ve just been starting over from scratch. We’ve spent at least 20 minutes a day working on ground manners such as standing quietly, picking up feet with no objections, and overall just being manhandled. For working, I’ve been taking him into the indoor arena and making him go through some “inhand/halter” movements. Lots of turning on the haunches, walk/trot/halt transitions, we’ve been practicing his bowing and kneeling. Doing this type of work gets his brain working and focused. You can run this horse into the ground and accomplish nothing, but get his brain going and the poor thing is exhausted in 20 minutes. After the inhand work, I turn him out on the lunge line and work him in both directions walk/trot/canter for 15 minutes each way.

He is settling in nicely at the new Farm. He’s made a new friend in the field named Tim, and has sucked up to the mare next door named Twist. Tim seems like a friendly enough horse, but Twist is a bit of a cranky old thing. Flame doesn’t seem to mind though, I think he is a sucker for punishment with his “girlfriends”.

Starting next week, I will be working him harder and beginning to practice tacking up. I’ve decided that he is going back to square one, and will have to learn just like a baby horse. It will do him good, and hopefully I can unwire some bad habits in the process.

ish cover letters

I applied for my first job in Canaduh today. It was easy.. cept for that darn cover letter*L* I think i have a fairly generic one that I can now use for just about anything.. Change the names around and all that. It pays fairly well, and is just “down the road” from us. Office stuff. I have to do some good strong MS Office tutorialing and get Miss Sandi to give me a rundown of QuickBooks Pro. I figure it won’t kill me to know it.

Wednesday, The Big Travel Day

We woke up Wednesday July 28th around 4am to get ready to leave to get Flame ready to go. We left shortly before 5am, after a sorta tearful goodbye to my mum and the dog. After getting to the barn, I went to turn on the lights above his stall, picked the wrong switch and scared the piss out of the poor horses at the end of the barn that didn’t know we were there. I gave Flame his breakfast and brushed him up really good.. He had laid down to sleep that night, so he was covered in shavings. So I got him all prettied up while he had his eats. We made sure we had all our stuff ready to go for when Brian showed up with the trailer.

He arrived around 5:30am and we loaded all my stuff into the trailer. When I packed everything up, it seemed like we had SO much, but later in the day, it seemed like so little once it was all put back in a tack locker. When loading Flame he snorted just a tiny bit while getting his shipping boots and crashcap on, but I think he realized that, those things only come on when he’s going somewhere important; like showing etc. When he went to clinic 3 years ago and had a horrible time of it all, he was just shoved quickly into a trailer and hauled off. I was expecting much more of a problem with him because of that. We’ve certainly had enough issues with him since then.

Sun-Tues 7-25/27

Sunday I went for a walk with the dad and the dog at Kensington Park. It was a good walk, and a nice way to wrap up the trip. I miss being able to take the pooch for a walk whenever I want, plus it’s a good time for my dad and I to just chat and catch up.

Sarah’s Wedding 07-24-04

To get the full effect, we have to start from Monday July 19. Miss Sarah, after discovering she was pregnant with the baby, stopped dying her hair.. so of course 9 months after that discovery, let’s just say.. this blonde had some serious roots. I asked her if she was colouring her hair, she said yes and I asked to come with her, and to help her pick a colour and do the deed. Well, she did it herself that Monday night. With cheap hairdye. I saw her Tuesday night, for going to the mall to learn makeup tricks at Sephora; she had a small chemical burn on her left temple and her hairline from behind her left ear all down along to the base of her neck was raised and quite pink. No problem. Vitamen E oil, baby shampoo.. it will all be fine by Saturday morning. Boy were we ever wrong.

oh what a busy 2 weeks it’s been!

I have so much to catch up on. I hope I can remember most of it *L* The lack of sleep has made everything a bit jumbled. I suppose I can start withi the last big event I remember which was my sweet Sarah’s wedding. I’ll continue on with more from there..
