Photoblog Competition

I have entered a 3rd photo over on photographyblog.com. This month’s theme was Sports, so I chose one of my favourite images from the Ottawa Dressage Festival to enter. If you happen to go over there, you can register and give me ratings and all that jazz.

tacked up and going

Today I spent most of it, cleaning tack. This new place is especially damp, and because I haven’t been using my saddle since well, before Flame left Michigan, my saddle had lots of green stuff growing on it. BUT! Before all that, I lunged Flame for 20 minutes.. 10 in each direction, then tacked him up. I then lunged him for another 10 in each direction with full tack and sidereins to keep him balanced, on the bit, and working properly. The inlaws want to take advantage of an equine model at their disposal, so I need to whip him in to shape, and build up some muscle. He’s sorely lacking any kind of muscle definition in the back and rump. After the lunging, I de-sidereined him and hopped up on him, walked him out at a nice good pace to let him cool and relax down. Our first ride in Canaduh.

I’m also willing to bet that he’s lost a few pounds, because he certainly is looking less like a 10 month pregnant mare and more like a shapely sporthorse. I’m going to have to keep an eye on him though, being that he’s working now, and on a different feed… he could easy drop the weight. They’re slowly switching from a sweet feed to a balanced fat/protein pellet, so I think he’ll do fine on that, it will just have to be watched to keep his weight at the correct level.

New fotolog photos

yeah, there are some new stormy sky photos too on picturing.. so go have a look at that too.

26 Things finished

I’ve finally finished off 26 Things for sh1ft.org. A little late, but I’ve been rather uninspired lately. So go have a look, comment, whatever.. Enjoy.

26 Things ~ July 2004

I finially finished.. You can find the album over in the Gallery under sh1ft projects, or by clicking that link i just gave you. Most of these were taken while visiting my folks. I do have the photographic interview plotted out as well.. I just have to get at it.

Very Strange Weather Today

Here are a few more stormy sky photos. We had the most amazing storms today. The sun freaked me out.

Happy Burpday to me

a day late. I had a pretty good birthday yesterday. Spent it mainly with K.. we had lunch, hung out here, went for a nice long walk, visited with Marc, watched 13 going on 30 (i decided to play the birthday card so i could get the 2 of them to watch a chick flick). It was kind of a strange birthday, I’m finding as the years go on, that less and less people actually give a shit no matter who you are. Wellwishers this year were drastically cut, and it was family, 3 real time friends and an assortment of online friends. It’s amusing that the most people that give you good wishes and greetings are complete strangers. Such is life I suppose.

Flame’s Training Blog

is finally freaking done. I finally got everything pieced together and working. Let me tell ya.. the documentation for pmachine pro? Not so good. Their explination and setting up instructions for running more than one blog is, push create new, name it and then copy over your current weblog and you are done. They forget to tell you, that you need to change the id name for just about every instance and finding those instances is a painstaking process that took about 3 weeks for it to all work correctly. Thank god, I don’t plan on redesigning that blog ever. So if you’re remotely interested in knowing how Flame is doing, clickie the little “flame” link over on the side, with the rest of the site links.

quickest way to fustrate me

just say 3 little words…

“must be bilingual”

Ottawa job requirements are enough to make me want to move to British Columbia.

settling in

So Flame has been at the new farm for just over a week now and in that time he’s settled in quite nicely. He hasn’t been this calm since I cannot even remember. Last night, I think I figured out why.

The farm that we board at is quite a bit more older and established than most of the stables in the area. From my little “riding in Ottawa” book, it’s been around for more than 20 years. There are 3 horses there.. that have been there for the last 20 years*L* The newest boarder besides me and the new guy, is like 5 years? The turn around is quite slow. The tiny little quiet town we’re in is dead quiet. It’s just quiet there. The barn “traffic” is next to none. The most the horses see all day are themselves, the lady that owns the place, and the girl that works there. Have I mentioned that it’s really quiet there?

Last night Flame did something, that quite honestly I don’t think he’s ever done. He stood quietly, in cross ties, while I completely groomed him and bustled around in the isle taking care of things. I think he blinked twice*L* The only time he moved, was when I asked him to step over. I lunged him pretty seriously for 20 minutes, and his respitory rate was back to resting in under 2 minutes, so I think he’s ready to get down to work :) I’m gonna start lunging with full tack tomorrow, side reins and all.. make him work.. and do that for a week or two..
