Saddam doesn't care about his people enough to care what happens to the POW's I do think we need to do whatever we can to find out if they are still alive and get them out.. I know people will say they're trying but I think that would be one of the worst things to have to rely on your enemy for your life. from what I’ve seen.. I did "hear" that US turned over some Al Qaeda operatives over to a different country for questioning because the US interrogation was limited by the fact that we had signed the Geneva Convention. I am sure there are times when loopholes were found and used. But even when we had these Al Qaeda members in our clutches we did not shoot them point blank and them expose their genitals and televise the whole thing for a good laugh. It is no less than I expected this is war after all. Also, this kind of thing has happened plenty of times before take Mogadishu for example. The difference is that this time it has media coverage. The issue at hand revolves around Iraq broadcasting interviews of the POW's. That act is what is considered to be in violation. You'll never see a captured Iraqi soldier being interviewed. The Geneva Convention has no provisions for prosecuting those responsible for torturing POW's. Torture is not considered a war crime, oddly enough. There were two female US troops and forty-three (??) males that were POW's of Iraq during Desert Storm. All were tortured, the women were raped, and there was nothing the US could do once they were repatriated. You'll note that we broadcast images of Iraqi POW's. The reason we get away with that is troops who capitulate (fancy word for surrender) have to sign a declaration of surrender prior to being processed. But even then, you never see an interview, do you? I will guarentee you this... there won't be and Iraqi POW's tortured. They penalty for torturing a POW is death. She is a 19 yr. old female missing in action. She was with the supply truck that was raided, but they have seen no sign of her with the rest of the POWs. She's a tiny lil thing too. Ok as far as following the Geneva Convention, if a US soldier is caught torturing a POW, the US will see to it that the soldier will pay the penalty. Court Marshall's are no fun to deal with. They could face the death penalty for it. They pound that into soldier's brains in basic training. When we claim absolute moral authority, we ought to be able to back it up just a little bit now and then.
